8th JBBY Awards Ceremony

The 8th JBBY Awards ceremony was held on March 17 at the Hibiya Convention Hall at the Hibiya Library & Museum. The awards were given to some candidates JBBY selected for international awards for children’s books, authors and illustrators. In 2009, JBBY gave awards every other year to works and artists selected to represent Japan in international competitions and awards. 

This year’s winners in the seven categories of JBBY awards.

  • Author category: IWASE Joko, 2022 HCAA nominee.
  • Illustrator category: ARAI Ryoji, 2022 HCAA nominee.
  • Writing work category: HANAGATA Mitsuru/Rironsha, Tokujiro and I, 2022 IBBY Honour List.
  • Illustration work category: TASHIMA Seizo/Kaiseisha, Gotcha!, 2022 IBBY Honour List.
  • Translation work category: NAGANO Toru/Iwanami Shoten, Pholus the Centaur (Folo, il Centuro by Roberto Piumini), 2022 IBBY Honour List.
  • Barrier-free book category: OGAWA Tadahiro/Asunaro Shobo, Apple, bit by bit, 2023 IBBY Selection of Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities.
  • Original artwork category: SHIOTANI Mamiko/Bronze Shinsha, The Story of Egg, 2021 BIB Plaque.
