Little Shadow
On her walk home, a little girl encounters the small, completely black Little Shadow, which no one else can see. One day, the girl works up her courage and talks to Little Shadow, and it leads her down a lane and through a wall to a house. An adventure all their own begins, as the two climb from a storeroom into an attic room, where a mysterious play space awaits. This 64-page picture book is illustrated entirely with copperplate etchings. Detail and the black tone stimulate the senses, lending wonder to a pool of sunlight on the porch; a shadow in the storeroom; plants. Even the smell of the old house is evoked.
