3024 年の「ニッポン」に住む「わたし」は、ある日博物館で、古い本の中の「とろけて あまい」チョコレートの記事を見つけ、どうしても食べたくなる。まちの外へと探しに行くと、古いロボットに出会い、カカオの実から種をとり、すり潰し、練り上げて、一緒にチョコレートを作る。「エイヨウダマ」や「ヘソデンキ」で食糧を摂取し、空飛ぶ自動車「フライごう」で移動するラクな生活から、自分で動いて、考えて、ものを作る手作りの楽しさに気づく「わたし」。未来の服装や建物などの絵も独創的。（奥山）

Mirai Chocolate
Maya, a twelve-year-old girl who lives in Japan in the year 3024, visits a museum. There, she finds an old article about something called ‘chocolate’ that melts in the mouth. Longing to try it, she sets off on a journey to find some. On the way, she meets an old robot, and together they harvest cacao beans from pods and grind the nibs into a paste to make chocolates. Used to an easy life where people get nourishment from ‘nutrient balls’ and ‘navel energy’ and travel by Fly-go (flying cars), Maya discovers the joy of working, thinking and making things herself. The futuristic setting, including clothes and buildings, is also inventive. ‘Mirai’ means future. (Okuyama)
