『手で見るぼくの世界は』
視覚支援学校の中学部にあがった佑（たすく）と双葉の１年間を描いた作品。
小学部の時はふたりだけのクラスだったが、中学部になると寄宿舎があり、遠くから通う同級生もいて、７人のクラスになる。これまで佑は活動的な双葉を頼ってばかりいたが、双葉は春休みに外出した時、人にぶつかって転倒し、ぶつかった人に差別的な言葉を投げつけられたことにショックを受け、不登校になっていた。新学期当初、佑は同級生とうまくなじめず、歩行訓練士の塚田さんに白杖の使い方を教えてもらうのもためらっていた。しかし、電話にも出ず、ずっと学校に来ていない双葉に会いたい一心で、挫折を味わいながらも、白杖を使ってひとりで外出できるように努力する。そして、近くのコンビニへ行ったり、地下鉄に乗ったりすることができるようになる。また、その過程で５人の級友にも心を開いていく。
一方、双葉は母に誘われて「伴歩・伴走クラブ」という、目が見えない人といっしょにウォーキングやジョギングをする団体に参加し、少しずつ外出ができるようになる。佑の電話にも応え、母とブラインドマラソン大会に出場する。視覚障害のある若者たちが、自分の身のまわりの様子をどのように理解しているのか、どんな日常生活や学校生活を送っているのか、何に悩み、どう成長していくのかが、佑と双葉の視点からていねいに、かつリアルに描かれている。（土居）

The World I See with My Hands
This book traces a year in the life of Tasuku and Futaba, two students who are entering junior high at a school for the visually impaired.
When in elementary school, the two formed a class by themselves, but now there are boarding students as well as students who commute a long distance, and their class has seven members. Moreover, Tasuku used to rely on active Futaba, but unfortunately, when out and about during school break, Futaba ran into someone and fell, and the man she ran into snarled discriminatory language at her. In shock, she is staying home from school.
At first, Tasuku struggles to get along with his new classmates, and he hesitates to have the walking trainer Mr. Tsukada teach him to use a white cane. But because he wants to meet Futaba, who neither answers the phone nor comes to school, Tasuku overcomes setbacks to use the cane and go out on his own. He goes to a convenience store nearby and rides the subway. In the process, he opens his heart to the five other members of the class.
For her part, at her mother’s urging, Futaba connects with a group of walking and running guides for the visually impaired. Futaba gradually begins to go out again. She also answers Tasuku’s calls and enters a marathon with her mother.
Through the perspectives of Futaba and Tasuku, this book explores how young people with visual impairments may process their surroundings, negotiate daily life and school life, struggle and grow. It is written with great care and realism. (Doi)
