『がっこうの てんこちゃん はじめてばかりで どうしよう！の巻』
小学校に上がったばかりのテンのてんこちゃんは、初めてのことが苦手で、すぐに不安になる。そのてんこちゃんを主人公に、クラスの10 名の子どもたちの５つのエピソードが展開していく。
「すきなことはなに？」では、自己紹介で「すきなことをおしえて」と先生に言われて、てんこちゃんは思いつかずに気まずくなり、カーテンにくるまって隠れてしまう。でも、クラスのみんなは楽しそうと思ってくれて、自分も自分も、とカーテンにくるまりにくる。てんこちゃんはホッとして、言葉が出るようになる。「ちゃいろいおべんとう」では、茶色くて地味なお弁当に引け目を感じたてんこちゃんは、恥ずかしくてふたをあけることができない。でも、ようやくあけると、好きなものばっかり入れてもらうなんていいな、と皆にうらやましがられる。「えんそくはドキドキ」では、遠足で山に行ったてんこちゃんが、転んだらどうしよう、迷子になったらどうしよう、と思っているうちに雨まで降ってくる。ますます不安になっていると、ほかの子どもたちも心細かったらしく、皆で手をつなぐことに。５つのエピソードを通して、心配性のてんこちゃんが、いろいろな個性やさまざまなものの見方があることを知って、学校生活が楽しいと思えるようになっていく。ゆかいな絵がたくさんついていて、文字を覚えたばかりの子どもが読んでも理解しやすい。（さくま）

Tenko chan at School
Tenko chan the Japanese marten has just started at elementary school. She doesn’t like doing things for the first time and immediately becomes anxious. She is the protagonist of these five episodes featuring a class of ten children. In “What Do You Like?”, the teacher asks the children to introduce themselves and tell everyone what they like, but Tenko chan just can’t think of anything at all and hides by wrapping herself in a curtain. But everyone thinks this looks like fun, so they all start saying “Me too! Me too!” and wrapping themselves in curtains. Relieved, Tenko chan is at last able to talk. In “A Brown Lunch,” Tenko chan feels embarrassed at her plain, brown packed lunch and can’t bring herself to open the lid in front of the others. But when she finally does open it, everyone says how envious they are at having only the things she likes in it. In “Nervous About the Excursion,” they go to the mountains on a school trip. While Tenko chan is worrying about what will happen if she falls over or gets lost, it starts raining. She gets even more anxious, but it turns out that other children too had been feeling scared and they all decide to hold hands.
Through these five episodes, worrier Tenko chan learns that everyone is different and that are various ways of looking at things, and she gradually starts to enjoy school life. With plenty of joyful pictures, it is easy to understand even for children who have only just learned how to read. (Sakuma)
