The 5th Translation Forum: “The Joy of Translating Folktales”
JBBY holds a panel session by translators every year.
The theme of this year was “Folktales.” Six Persian, Korean, Czech, Hungarian, Italian, and African JBBY member translators introduced folktales from their specialized regions and shared interesting episodes in the translation process. Folktales are stories that condense the traditions and culture of a region, but at the same time, there are similar but subtly different stories from all over the world, giving the audience of over 200 people a sense of diversity and universality.
