『わたしに続く道』（Watashi ni tsuzuku michi）
リイマは、ケニア人の父と日本人の母の間に生まれ、褐色の肌に、くるくるの髪。「黒人」とからかわれ、外国人と誤解され、傷つくことも多い。前半は、そんな悩める５年生のリイマが、母の再婚相手シンちゃんの母である祖母に、ケニア旅行に誘われるまでが描かれる。そして、後半では、ケニアの色鮮やかな風景、多様な動物たち、弱肉強食の現実などに遭遇しながら、リイマは自分のルーツについて考えていく。とっつきにくいが優しい祖母、誤解したり理解したりする友人たちなど、複雑な登場人物にリアリティがある。（奥山）

The Path Leading to Me
With a Kenyan father and Japanese mother, Riima has dark skin and curly hair. She is often mistaken for a foreigner and hurtfully teased for being “black.” The first half of this book portrays Riina’s troubles in Year 5 of elementary school, up until she is invited on a trip to Kenya by her grandmother on the side of her mother’s second husband Shin-chan. In the second half, Riima contemplates her roots as she encounters Kenya’s colorful landscapes, wildlife, and the reality of the law of the jungle. The complex characters are portrayed realistically, with Riina’s somewhat unapproachable but kind grandmother, and her friends, who misunderstand and understand her by turns. (Okuyama)
