『さんごいろの雲』（Sango iro no kumo）
人や動物や木が不思議な体験をする７つの短編集。表題作は、美しいサンゴ色の雲を見て貧しいバイオリン弾きが音楽を奏でると、雲がお礼に「あなたがバイオリンをひくたびに、悲しんでいる人たちの小さな願いがかなうように。でも決して、欲深い人のためにバイオリンをひいてはいけませんよ」と魔法をかける。他に、姉弟が森の中へ野イチゴつみに行ってウサギの歌声に誘われて道に迷う「リルムラルム」、妻を亡くした王様が小鳥に誘われて虹を見る「王さまと虹」などがある。情景が目の前に浮かぶような描写が美しい。（土居）

The Coral-Colored Cloud
People, animals, and trees have strange experiences in these seven short stories. In the title story a poor fiddler traveling with his dog plays his violin for a beautiful coral-colored cloud. The cloud thanks him by casting a spell that will grant the modest wishes of unhappy people every time he plays, but warns him never to play for greedy people. In “Lirum Larum,” a sister and brother go to pick wild strawberries in the forest, but are led astray by the rabbits singing, and in “The King and the Rainbow,” a king is wandering around filled with grief for the death of his wife, when a little bird draws his attention to a rainbow. The descriptions are so beautiful that you can almost see the scenes before your eyes. (Doi)
