『ナナのおけいこ』（Nana no okeiko）
ナナはユイの家で飼われているネコ。ユイが生まれたのは、ナナが自分の子を何匹も育てた後だから、「こんどは ユイちゃんのめんどうを みてあげてね」とお母さんに言われ、ナナはユイのお母さんみたいにユイにいろいろなことを教える。獲物のとり方、塀の歩き方、毛づくろいの仕方、手を使わない食べ方。ユイはネコじゃないから、ナナのお稽古についていけなくてもナナは容赦ない。成長するユイと年老いていくナナのそれぞれの視点から、ユーモラスな挿絵でふたりの奇妙な交流が描かれていく。最後の場面が哀切だ。（野上）

Training Yui
Nana is Yui’s cat. Yui was born after Nana had already raised many kittens of her own. Yui’s mother told Nana, “Please take care of Yui now.” Nana teaches Yui many things, as if she were Yui’s mother. Things like how to catch prey, how to walk along the top of a fence, how to groom fur, and how to eat without her hands. As Yui is not a cat, it’s difficult for her to keep up sometimes, but Nana doesn’t accept that as an excuse. The illustrations capture the humor of this unusual relationship from the perspective of Yui, who is growing up, and Nana, who is growing old. The final scene is particularly poignant. (Nogami)
