貧しい孤児の姉と弟が食べものを探していると、アチケという魔女に出会う。アチケに招き入れられて食われそうになったふたりは魔女の家を脱出し、コンドルやピューマを味方につけて草原まで逃げていく。ふたりの祈りに応えて天から降りてきた綱をのぼると、そこはなんと一面のジャガイモ畑。魔女も綱を上って追ってくるが墜落し、落ちた所に険しい山々ができる。アンデス山脈や、この地域が原産のジャガイモにまつわる昔話で、逃げていく子どもたちを野生動物が助けるのもおもしろい。迫力のある絵がハラハラする物語を支えている。（さくま）

Achiqueé and the Potato Field in the Sky: A Peruvian Folktale
While searching for food, two poor orphans, a sister and brother, run into a witch named Achiqueé. She invites them into her house and tries to eat them, but they escape and, with the help of a condor and a puma, flee into the meadow. In answer to their prayers, a rope appears from the sky. At the top, they find a potato field in the clouds. The witch climbs after them but falls to the ground, turning into a range of steep mountains. This folktale tells the origin of the Andes and the region’s native crop, the potato. The animals help the children escape in entertaining ways, and the powerful illustrations augment the thrilling pace. (Sakuma)
