This photobook portrays the life cycle of the golden-ringed dragonfly, the largest of Japan’s dragonflies. Through vivid photos and clear explanations, the book shows the dragonfly as it emerges with wings in the lush greenery at the end of the rainy season, flies over the stream, its emerald eyes shining, catching and eating insects, and mating, until its life ends in autumn. In the latter half, close-ups and underwater photos show how the larvae emerge from the laid eggs and shed their skin repeatedly over several years to become large nymphs then adults with wings.
