A picture book in which a world-renowned artist minutely observes and beautifully illustrates the growth of a tomato plant from a single seed to producing lots of red fruit. The seed sprouts in the earth and puts down roots, the first shoot appears and rapidly grows foliage. Buds enveloped in fuzzy hair open into yellow flowers. When the flower wilts, the ovary swells and develops into a plump fruit and gradually turns red. This picture book shows us this process slowly and carefully. There is also a page depicting the 272 seeds taken from a single fruit, all different, conveying the life force hidden in each individual seed. (Sakuma)
