Horses are large and highly intelligent creatures, who have a kind of words that only they understand. Humans and horses may be different, but there are certain ways in which humans can understand horses’ language. For example, take a lot of time approaching a horse, and do nothing except wait until the horse takes an interest in you. The author of this book has longed to speak with animals since childhood and even moved to Yonaguni Island in Okinawa—the westernmost island in Japan—to be near the horses who live there in a near-wild state. Observation revealed that everything the horses do has a meaning. This picture book shows the importance of slowly, quietly seeing the animals around us and bonding with them. (Shiozaki)
