平飼いでアニマルウェルフェアの理念に従って経営されている養鶏場「ハコニワ・ファーム」の卵生産の様子をまとめた写真絵本。毎朝、ニワトリの健康チェックをする「こいけさん」、エサやり担当の「かねこさん」、掃除担当の「うえのさん」……といった具合に、働く人とニワトリたちの様子が見開きごとにわかりやすくまとめられている。やがてニワトリたちはつやつやの卵を産み落とし、卵は洗卵場で洗われ、パックされて、店から食卓へと届く。ニワトリ、働く人々、産まれる卵、それぞれの命が大切にされている様子が伝わってくる。（奥山）

Precious Eggs
This photo picture book introduces egg production at Hakoniwa Farm, a free-range poultry farm operated according to humane farming practices. Double-page spreads present daily routines for the farmers and the chickens through photos and easy-to-understand text. There is Koike who checks the chickens’ condition every morning, Kaneko who is in charge of their feed, and Ueno who keeps their space clean. The hens lay shiny eggs, which are washed, packaged, and delivered to the store from which they finally reach the customers’ tables. The book captures how everyone and everything involved, including the farmers, the hens and even the eggs, are treated with care and respect. (OKUYAMA)
