小さな街の小さな郵便局で働くのは、窓口に立つガイトーと、配達をするトリノス。ある日、岬の灯台守が、誰からも手紙をもらったことがないと聞いたガイトーは、「１通め」の手紙を書いてトリノスに届けてもらう。２通目は学校に行かないトリノスの姪に、３通目は、その母親に届け、やがて手紙は街の噂になっていく。そして11 通目、「ゆうびんや」という詩がトリノスに届くことになる。詩のような手紙をいろいろな人に届ける郵便屋さんから温かい思いが広がっていく物語。美しい挿画とともに、読後、余韻が残る。（近藤）

The Poet Postmaster
At the small post office in a small town, Gaito works at the counter while Torinosu handles deliveries. One day, Gaito hears that the lighthouse keeper at the cape has never received a letter from anyone, and decides to write to him, giving the poetic letter to Torinosu to deliver. He sends a second letter to Torinosu’s niece, who doesn’t attend school, and a third to her mother. Soon, the letters become the talk of the town. Then, Torinosu himself receives the eleventh letter, a poem titled “The Letter Carrier.” Warmth spreads through this story as the postman delivers poetic letters to various people in town. Beautifully illustrated, it leaves a lingering warm afterglow. (KONDO)
