朝、窓の外が明るくて、男の子は目がさめた。「ゆき！ ゆきが つもってる！」。「ゆきのあさは しんとして しずか。しずか」。車も、庭の木も、植木鉢も、三輪車も、みんな雪の下で眠っているみたい。男の子はうれしくて、雪をふみしめ、雪の中であそぶ。「くすす、くすす、くすす、きゅっ、きゅっ くくくくく、くふっ……」、男の子の足跡の穴ぼこが、いっぱいできた。冷たい、静かな雪の中、雪と語りあうような様子が伝わってくる。たくさんの楽しいオノマトペが、雪の絵の中に広がり、子どもたちにも雪の声を届けてくれる。（近藤）

The Voice of the Snow
One morning, a boy awakes to find the world outside his window unusually bright. “Snow! There’s snow everywhere!” he exclaims. Snowy mornings are so quiet. Cars, trees in the garden, flower pots, tricycles—all appear to be asleep beneath a white blanket. The boy joyfully stamps through the snow, playing in it and leaving a trail of hollow footprints behind him. The snow makes crunching noises under his feet, and in the cold wintry hush we get the sense that he is conversing with the snow. The snow’s own voice reaches the readers of the book through lots of fun onomatopoeic words, which are spread out over the snowy pictures.(KONDO)
