JBBY shared a booth with the Japan Foundation at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair on April 8–11. The objective was to assist and support the interests of publishers, translators and illustrators from other countries in the latest children’s books from Japan. Thirty-five books were chosen for three categories of the display: (1) What’s New? Picture Books You Don’t Want to Miss, (2) A New Wave of Picture Books from Independent Publishing Houses, and (3) Lifelong Favorites.
Photos of editors were included in the pamphlet introducing the books, which were distributed to visitors. The booth schedule was full of talk events, kamishibai (picture-card storytelling), portfolio reviews, and more, all of which were well attended.
A popular Japanese restaurant in Bologna catered for our reception during the fair, another opportunity to meet and get acquainted with people involved in children’s literature all over the world. The booth was designed by KAKINOKIHARA Masahiro, and the logo was by KOMAGATA Katsumi, who, sadly, passed away in March.
