The author of this book is a biologist who has been researching land slugs for nearly twenty years. Why did she choose the much-hated slug to research? In fact, she did not start out this way, but while researching the slug that is the most common in Japan, the Ambigolimax valentianus, she discovered that she found it interesting. In this book, she talks about loving animals as a child and wanting to become a veterinarian, and then becoming a slug researcher as an adult—even starting the Slug Survey Network, a project to look for slugs that invites private citizens’s participation.
