名前も姿形もあまり知られていないコブシメの魅力がいっぱい詰まった写真絵本。大型のイカで、枕のような体のまわりには、エンペラというフリルがある。周囲に合わせて体の色・形をすっかり変えることができるので、写真の中のコブシメを探すのもかなり難しい。オス同士の戦いでは体の半分を白に、半分を黒にもする。オスとメスの交接、産卵などの写真はおごそかで美しい。特にサンゴの産卵とコブシメのふ化が同時に起こった瞬間をとらえた写真は、自然の中での生物の共生をみごとに表している。（坂口）

This photo book is full of fascinating facts about the broadclub cuttlefish, a relatively unknown species. A member of the golden cuttlefish family, it has frill-like undulating fins around its pillowy body. It can change the color of its body to match its surroundings, to the extent that it can be hard to make it out in the photographs. In fights between males, their bodies can be half white and half black. The photographs of males and females mating and spawning are majestic and beautiful. In particular, the photographs capturing the simultaneous spawning of coral and hatching of broadclub cuttlefish is a marvelous example of the symbiosis of living organisms in nature. (Sakaguchi)
