With vibrant photographs, this book introduces seventeen types of flower we don’t often get to see from vegetables that are common on Japanese dining tables, such as the yellow flowers of cucumbers, purple flowers of sweet potatoes, and white flowers of lotus roots. It is fun to see the flower first and have to guess what vegetable it is, then have the answer revealed when you turn the page. There is an infinite range of colors and numbers of petals and pistils and so forth. Each vegetable’s fruit, roots, stem, buds, leaves, and which parts we eat are clearly explained. We also find out fun facts, that the flowers of potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants look similar. (Sakaguchi)
