小学生の元気な子ブタ、ピクルスの日常生活を描いたシリーズ第３作。ピクルスが友だちのジンブと経験した春から初秋までの４つの話を収録。
雨ふり続きの春休みにピクルスは、どんな雨雲も吹き飛ばしてしまう、という「春の大風」を探しに行き、草むらの中で傘をさしてカタツムリを集めている、茶色い子ブタのジンブに出会う。ジンブは、ひとり暮らしのおばあさんの家に引っ越してきたばかりだった（「ピクルスと春の大風」）。
新学期、ピクルスの学校にジンブが転校してきた。ピクルスはお母さんの卵クッキーをごちそうする約束をするが、ジンブは道に迷ってしまい、なかなか現れない（「ピクルスとだいじな約束」）。
夏休み、クラスでいちばん大きくていばっているブスケが育てたスイカを砂浜に持っていき、３人でスイカわりをする。大きなスイカの中からは、ブスケがしゃべった悪口がいっぱい飛び出してきた（「ピクルスとぶったまげのスイカ」）。
秋には、足が悪くて海まで歩けないジンブのおばあさんのために、森の中からでも打ち上げ花火を見物できる計画を、森に住む仲間みんなで考える（「ピクルスと打ちあげ花火」）。
友だちと過ごす毎日は、どきどき、わくわく楽しいことがいっぱいだ。淡い色彩の挿し絵が、それぞれの個性を鮮やかに伝える。絵と文が一体となって、物語の世界に引き込んでくれる幼年文学。（汐﨑）

Pickles and His Friends
This is the third book in the series portraying Pickles, an energetic piglet in elementary school. It includes four stories about Pickles meeting his friend Jinbu and the experiences the pair have from spring to autumn.
It won’t stop raining and Pickles goes in search of the strong spring wind that can blow away all the rain clouds, and meets a brown piglet called Jinbu sitting in the grass under an umbrella collecting snails. Jinbu has just moved to a house in the neighbourhood where his granny lives alone (“Pickles and the Spring Wind”). Jinbu transfers to Pickles’ elementary school at the start of the new school year. Pickles promises him some of his mother’s egg cookies, but Jinbu gets lost on the way and doesn’t turn up at first (“Pickles and His Important Promise”). In the summer vacation Buske, the biggest baddest kid in the class, brings a watermelon that he himself had grown to the beach and the three of them share it. All the bad things Buske had said came flying out of the big watermelon (“Pickles and the Astonishing Watermelon”). In the fall, Jinbu’s friends decide to set off some fireworks from the beach so his grandmother, who is unsteady on her feet and can’t walk to the sea any more, will be able to see them from her house in the forest (“Pickles and the Fireworks”).
The friends’ days are full of excitement, anticipation and fun. The delicately colored illustrations vividly capture the characters individual characteristics, drawing us into their world. (Shiozaki)
