両親が離婚した後、10歳の少年子信（ズー・シン）は、祖父とおじ一家と一緒に大魚島の漁村で暮らしていた。漁村は移転を迫られていたが、莫海（モー・ハイ）という中年男性は兄との約束を守るため、島から離れることを拒んでいた。彼は立ち退きを拒否して、孤独な「変わり者」阿海（アー・ハイ）と呼ばれるようになった。
内向的で、思慮深い少年である子信は、莫海と遊ぶのが好きで、よく一緒にボートを漕いでカモ島へ魚を獲りに行ったり、リュウキュウガモと莫海の秘密基地を見に行ったりした。二人は次第に年の離れた親友となった。そして莫海はついに、1988年の夏に起きたある出来事を打ち明ける。それは、30年以上前の父と息子にまつわる、長らく封印されていた過去の物語だった──。

The Sky of Dendrocygna Javanica
After his parents divorced, a ten year old boy named Xin lived with his grandfather and uncle in the fishing village of Dayu Island. The fishing village is facing relocation, but a middle-aged man named Mo Hai is sticking to his promise to his brother and unwilling to move away from the island. He became a “nail household” on the island and also a solitary “weirdo” Ahai.
The introverted and thoughtful boy Xin likes to play with Mo Hai. They often go boating to Wild Duck Island to catch fish and visit the secret base of Dendrocygna javanica and Mo Hai. The two gradually become lifelong friends. Mo Hai finally told Zixin the story that happened in the summer of 1988, thus uncovering a dusty past of father and son more than thirty years ago.
