This book is a magnificently informative album about the life of the naturalist Charles Darwin, his father’s influence
on his life and training, and his voyage aboard the Beagle to the Galapagos. Sís based his words and art on Darwin’s detailed descriptions of everything he observed in his diaries, which he recreated in his Origin of Species, as well as on the adaptation of Margaret J. Andersen’s book Charles Darwin. Darwin ‘did not invent the idea of evolution’ but contributed to the theory of natural selection with his work as a naturalist, geologist and thinker. He supported his contributions to the theory with evidence to demonstrate how evolution worked. Contributions to the theory of evolution had already been made by Aristotle, Buffon, Lamarck, and others, based on their own research in trying to understand the changes in the natural world. Sís’ book introduces young people to the theory of evolution.
