in 1964 and tells the story of the Melkerson family’s summer stay on the fictional island of Saltkråkan. Characters include the father, a dreamy, awkward writer; his pretty eldest daughter, who was very responsible at an early age; two fearless sons who are twins; and the youngest son, an animal lover. After arriving on the island on a June day, they meet the inhabitants, including the strong-willed little Tjorven. They go swimming, fishing, and have other adventures, which will leave a lasting impression on them.
