A murder scandalizes the whole city, and everyone at the manor seems to have secrets. The book is filled with multidimensional characters and skilfully propelled language. Huss has succeeded in his translation giving it a smooth and fluent language that is so seamless it does not feel like reading a translation. A literary and precise language sharpens the senses of the reader and preserves the underlying tone of someone not telling the truth while building up the mystery. Furthermore, the internal and external dialogue is very credible. The original novel in Swedish was nominated for the Finlandia Prize for the Best C&YA Title 2020 and for the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize 2021.
