Suzume tells the story of seventeen-year-old Suzume and the young man Souta on a tumultuous journey throughout Japan in their attempt to stop the Daijin from wreaking havoc. The Daijin is responsible for the
magical doors that are opening all over the nation, and through these open doors a giant can enter the real
world to cause cataclysmic earthquakes. Suzume and Souta must find all the doors and shut them to prevent the destruction caused by the earthquakes. This novel highlights the complexities of human relationships. Throughout the story, the characters grapple with their own uncertainties, worries and desires. The ending is a reminder that relationships are not always straightforward and that sometimes the best course of action is to focus on ourselves and our own personal growth before committing to others.
